All week long I've been talking about taking care of our homes, families and our budget. But lets be real here, if we don't take care of our selves, up there at the top of that list, then everything else is just going to fall apart.
I have four kids; they wear me out! But I've found that if I spend a few minutes everyday moving my body in a constructive way, I'm able to keep up much better. I jog for 30 minutes a day.
If someone had told me a few years ago that I would be able to jog a few miles a day, I would have laughed them right out of the place. I couldn't even fathom being able to jog 1/10 of a mile without passing out or experiencing heart palpitations that felt as if my chest was going to burst. I had never run more than 1/10 of a mile in my entire life. Then one day, about a year ago, I took my first tentative steps to making my lifelong running dream into a reality. I found information on line about The Couch-to-5k Running Plan. Somehow, I managed to convince my sweet husband to be supportive and join me on this journey.
We went to the local park and let the kids play on the playground, while we traveled around the perimeter of the park. We started that first week jogging in 60 second intervals. I thought I was going to die! But we stuck with it and kept going to the park 3 times a week. Each week we were shocked to discover that we could jog a little bit farther. Week 5 of the program loomed ahead, I could see in the plan that I was expected to run for 20 minutes without stopping, and I was positive that Josh Clark, the plan author, must be out of his mind. But, low and behold, sure enough, when week 5 came around... I did it! And there was no turning back after that.
At the end of 9 weeks, I could officially declare myself a RUNNER. It makes me feel so proud, not to mention being the best stress reliever I have ever found. Best of all, running is absolutely FREE!
